New Solar Battery Photo Requirements — Mandatory from 1 March 2026
Updated Feb 8
Important: From 1 March 2026 the Clean Energy Regulator (CER) introduces mandatory photo requirements for all solar battery installations under the SRES. Installers and auditors must supply specific photos showing labels and signage as part of compliance evidence.
Geo / Onsite apps — updates coming
Third‑party reporting apps (such as Geo and Onsite) are being updated to include the new photo “buckets” and descriptions required by the CER. Expect forms and photo guidelines in those tools to align with the new CER checklist.

The 3 main areas now requiring additional photographic evidence
The CER highlights three core label/ signage areas that must be photographed and included with SRES submissions:

1. Meter Box Labels
- Main Battery Label: The circular green reflective “ES” label (minimum 100 mm diameter) showing the appropriate UN number (eg. UN3480).
- PV Label: The standard circular green PV label.
- Compliance: Any other labels required by Australian Standards or state regulations (eg. emergency services, connection notices).

2. Switchboard & Isolation Labels
- Warning labels: Clearly visible on the switchboard or on the outside of the meter box with shutdown references.
- Shutdown procedure: An emergency shutdown procedure label that is legible and easy to follow.
- Alternative supply: Labels for any alternative supply arrangements (if present) so emergency services know how the system can still be energised.

3. Solar Battery Unit Labels
- Safety signs: Risk‑specific warnings mounted on or adjacent to the battery (examples: Toxic fumes, Battery explosion, Arc flash).
- First aid: Chemical hazard and first‑aid signs with instructions for exposure to battery chemicals.
- Photographs should capture the label location relative to the battery, and ensure legibility in the image.
Always check the official CER guidance
The summary above covers the essentials, but installers should review the CER’s official materials to ensure full compliance and to follow the required photo formats and descriptions.
How Koalabel can help
Koalabel has supplied bollards, solar label kits and battery stickers across Australia and New Zealand for over 15 years. We manufacture and supply labels and kits designed to meet Australian requirements, including:
- Reflective ES battery labels (100 mm diameter) with space for UN numbers such as UN3480
- PV identification labels and reflective meter box decals
- Emergency shutdown procedure labels and switchboard warning signs
- Battery hazard / first aid and chemical exposure signage
- Customised label kits for installers to simplify compliance photo packs
For training, customised kits or to discuss compliant label options for upcoming installs, speak with your usual Koalabel representative or supplier channel.
Note: This post summarises CER requirements as at the date above. Always refer to the CER guides and the applicable Australian Standards and state rules when preparing SRES documentation.
