Aula Energy Acquires 1GW Solar Portfolio to Expand Renewables

Emerging renewables player acquires 1GW solar portfolio

Aula Energy is complementing its wind and battery exploits with the acquisition of five solar farms from Lightsource bp.

The 1GW portfolio includes the West Wyalong, Wunghnu, Woolooga, Wellington and Wellington North solar farms across New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria, with options to develop co-located battery energy storage systems (BESS) across the portfolio.

“With the acquisition of these operating assets, we continue to scale our business, deliberately building a portfolio of assets that will meet the long-term energy needs of Australian communities,” Aula Energy chief executive officer Chad Hymas said.

“For the solar farms acquired, day-to-day activities on-site will continue as usual. We want customers, the local community, landholders and Traditional Owners to know that we value the strong foundations already in place.”

The solar farms will accompany Aula Energy’s growing wind portfolio, where the company has closed two major wind projects in consecutive years, Carmody’s Hill in December 2025 and Boulder Creek in September 2024, with Boulder Creek construction now well underway.

Carmody’s Hill has development approval for 45 wind turbines to generate up to 270MW, while Stage 1 of Boulder Creek will comprise 38 turbines and a generating capacity of 228MW.

The company has also partnered with Green Wind Renewables to develop wind farms up to 2.4GW in Western Australia, which would feed into the South-West Interconnected System.

Hymas said Aula’s profile was quickly growing.

“We are building a business supported by strategic partners who can grow with us,” he said. “Our track record since 2023 reflects their confidence in our capabilities and our focus on delivery.

“This acquisition strengthens our ability to support Australia’s energy transition while creating long term value for our shareholders and communities.”
