Danfoss contributes to energy-efficient microgrid solution

Revolutionising Agribusiness Sustainability with Innovative Energy Solutions

An exciting partnership between PowerTec and AGL is redefining the standards for sustainability in the agribusiness sector.

Danfoss has introduced its state-of-the-art inverter technology to the Cadell Almond Farm project in New South Wales, aiming to enhance the sustainability of energy sources within this rural agribusiness. The 1690-hectare almond orchard previously depended on diesel generators for its electric pumps, a practice that was both environmentally damaging and financially uncertain in terms of future energy costs.

Transitioning to Sustainable Energy

To shift agribusinesses toward a more eco-friendly energy model, AGL and PowerTec turned to Danfoss inverters, utilising their advanced technology, strategic collaborations, and innovative mindset.

The core of this initiative is a battery energy storage system that supports a 4.8MW solar farm equipped with tracking technology, significantly reducing the dependence on diesel generators. With a storage capacity of 4.2MWh, this battery system is vital to the microgrid structure. The Vacon NXP Grid Converter links the energy storage system to the AC grid and offers various functionalities, including the ability to form the microgrid, handle high current overloads for fault clearance, and provide instantaneous reserves to adapt to fluctuating energy demands.

Industry Milestone Achieved

Paul Holland, General Manager for Danfoss Pacific Region, commented, “This project signifies a landmark in our mission to enable energy-efficient solutions on a grand scale. Through collaborative efforts and innovation, we are paving the way for a sustainable future, one microgrid at a time.”

The successful rollout of this project at Cadell Almond Farm sets a benchmark for sustainability within the agribusiness industry, illustrating that even in remote locations, a greener and more efficient energy future is attainable with the appropriate technology and cooperative partnerships.
